After studying Art History and Film History at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Nicolas Verstappen researched comics art as a language of symptoms of psychic trauma. Since 2015, he is a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), where he teaches visual and comparative media courses as well as two comics-related creative writing courses. Among other objectives, his courses and workshops aim at the development of visual and multimodal literacies, and at the production of experimental and socially-conscious graphic narratives. 

Author of the Eisner Award-nominated book "The Art of Thai Comics: A Century of Strips and Stripes" (River Books, 2021) and founder of the Thai Comics Archives, he is also a PhD student in Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Arts, KU Leuven (Belgium), exploring countercultural expressions in 1970s Thai comics.
