With a background in cognitive psychology and neuroscience, Hector produces research for Typotheque. His research focuses on perception of type, from accessibility to acceptance.
During his bachelor (BSc Cognitive Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of Manchester), his interest was in the cognition of perception. This interest was carried on to his masters, on applied cognitive psychology at the University of Utrecht.
Recent works include Improving Designing fonts with low-vision readers in mind: A reading acuity experiment (2024), Optimising Braille Character Spacing for Enhanced Tactile Reading (2024), The Handwriting Database (2023) and The Familiarity Effect in the Perception of Handwriting (2023).
